Municipal Climate Adaptation Certificate - Launching in January 2026

The University of Waterloo's Climate Institute is developing a thee-part microcredential course to support municipal staff in climate adaptation planning and implementation. Designed for municipal employees in multi-faceted roles wanting to integrate climate adaptation into planning and action projects. The three- these self-paced courses explore current challenges in aviation and the critical importance of sustainability in shaping its future.​

Registration opens September 2025 for courses starting in January 2026!

The courses offered are (available in English and French):

  • Microcredential 1: Climate Risk & Adaptation Foundation - Online 8 -10 hour course with synchronous and asynchronous content, self-paced activities, and reflections.

  • Microcredential 2: Applying Climate Adaptation in Municipal Roles Online 8 - 10 hour course with synchronous and asynchronous content, self-paced activities, and reflections. Participants choose one or more of the following specialization course:

    • Specialization options: Finance and Accounting | Planning | Engineering and Asset Management | Governance and Resilient Communities | Green Infrastructure and Parks | Health and Community Services

  • Microcredential 3: Learning to Action Mini-Capstone - Pre-requisite course Microcredential 1 and 2. In-person or online 20 hour course. Two options for engagement:

    • In-person Capstone: 3-day in-person course at the University of Waterloo.

    • Remote Capstone: Synchronous and asynchronous content, self-paced activities, and reflections.
