Municipal Climate Adaptation Certificate - Launching in January 2026

The University of Waterloo's Climate Institute is developing a three-part micro-credential course to support municipal staff in climate adaptation planning and implementation. Designed for municipal employees in multi-faceted roles wanting to integrate climate adaptation into planning and action projects. 

Registration opens September 2025 for courses starting in January 2026!

The courses offered are (available in English and French):

  • Micro-credential 1: Climate Risk & Adaptation Foundation - Online 8 -10 hour course with synchronous and asynchronous content, self-paced activities, and reflections.

  • Micro-credential 2: Applying Climate Adaptation in Municipal Roles Online 8 - 10 hour course with synchronous and asynchronous content, self-paced activities, and reflections. Participants choose one or more of the following specialization courses:

    • Specialization options: Finance and Accounting | Planning | Engineering and Asset Management | Governance and Resilient Communities | Green Infrastructure and Parks | Health and Community Services

  • Micro-credential 3: Learning to Action Mini-Capstone - Pre-requisite course Micro-credential 1 and 2. In-person or online 20 hour course. Two options for engagement:

    • In-person Capstone: 3-day in-person course at the University of Waterloo.

    • Remote Capstone: Synchronous and asynchronous content, self-paced activities, and reflections.
