The Waterloo Climate Institute is pleased to highlight member Prof. Simron Singh’s recent collaboration with the University of Augsburg in establishing a new international research network that aims to develop innovative strategies for climate adaptation.

Together with University of Augsburg, Germany – and as part of their flagship Green Transformation initiative led by Prof. Axel Tuma and Dr. Andrea Thorenz – we launched a collaboration to take the field of “island industrial ecology” or “Metabolism of Islands” to the next level.

As described in the University of Augsburg’s press release, the collaboration will unite leading international institutions specializing in environmental and sustainability research. The network will focus on systems analysis, resource management, and socio-metabolic risks in vulnerable geographies.

To kick things off, the collaboration will launch initiatives aimed at strengthening the resilience of small island nations facing increasing climate change impacts, particularly rising sea levels.
