Areas of research: Jaliya Fonseka explores narratives and lived experiences shaped by climate, migration, cultural identity, belonging, and place, with a focus on those often overlooked. He teaches in both the Architecture and Architectural Engineering programs at the University of Waterloo. His teaching and architectural practice emphasize proximity as a means of engaging with, and responding to, the physical, material, and social implications of the built environment.
