Research Summary

Professor Hickey's research focuses on numerical simulations of turbulent flows, which are characterized by a strong interaction between thermodynamics, acoustics and/or chemical kinetics. Using a wide toolbox in computational physics - with a specific emphasis on Large-Eddy (LES) and Direct Numerical Simulations (DNS) using high-performance computing (HPC) - he studies canonical and applied flows in the field of aerospace engineering and energy systems. The objective of the research is to understand the coupled physical mechanisms that allows us to develop and improve the predictive modelling for engineering applications.
