TEACHING Hosts

Current linux.student.cs.uwaterloo.ca Hosts

The linux.student.cs.uwaterloo.ca hosts are a collection of Linux servers for general CS course work. Access is through SSH. The servers currently run Ubuntu 22.04 and consist of the following machines.

Servers may be rebooted or temporarily turned off for maintenance, so they may not all be available at any given time. Live status is available on the Linux server status page.

windows.student.cs.uwaterloo.ca Host

The windows.student.cs.uwaterloo.ca host allows connection to a Windows Remote Desktop. See access instructions.

ugster*.student.cs.uwaterloo.ca Hosts

The ugster*.student.cs.uwaterloo.ca hosts are a reconfigurable computing cluster to augment course and student requirements. Past examples of use are as a Rocks compute cluster running CentOS (a derivative of Redhat Linux), and as ten pairs of performance analysis nodes running Ubuntu Linux. Use is specific to undergraduate courses requiring clustered computing (e.g. CS458). The ugster machines are not intended for general login.

smb-files.student.cs.uwaterloo.ca Hosts

The smb-files.student.cs.uwaterloo.ca hosts allow mounting your TEACHING account as a folder/drive on your computer using Samba. See access instructions.
