Comments & discussion

  • Is any of the work you do pushed back to the Drupal community?
    • Yes. Tyler Struyk and Liam Morland are really involved in the Drupal process and contribute back to the Drupal community.
  • 65% of sites have been migrated over; of the remaining sites, how many are waiting for a specific feature to be developed before migrating?
    • We have been doing some impact mapping and discussing needs with the sites that haven’t been migrated yet; some are waiting for features we need to address and others are waiting for the responsive theme.
  • What is the timeline for WCMS 2.0?
    • It is a big project and we will be releasing things constantly.
    • Hoping to have the responsive theme complete by the fall.
  • Have you been able to say "no" to certain requests?
    • Not being able to say “no” was part of the original backlog problem; we have set the priorities for this project and will focus on the items within the scope of the project.
  • Is there a way to provide an opportunity for faculty members to develop their own sites within the WCMS?
    • This is something that we are very interested in. Harvard has a tool for that and it is definitely a direction we would like to go.
    • Need to make sure our infrastructure is solid before adding thousands of personal sites to it.

Chair’s Remarks (Bruce Campbell)

  • Welcomed Steve Bourque as the acting Director of Technology Integrated Services (TIS).

Approval of the minutes of the previous meeting

The minutes from the meeting on May 14, 2015, were accepted as distributed.

Asset Management project discussion

A demonstration video was distributed to members by Erick Engelke on the functionality of iTop.

Comments & discussion

  • Next steps are to complete a formal gap analysis to see how it measures up to the current project requirements; Shawn Winnington-Ball will report back on this.
  • Most of the essential requirements (that were covered in the initial list) are covered.
  • Campbell will be reporting back to the audit committee in July.
  • Some areas on campus may choose not to use iTop because they already have a preferred tool for managing their assets.
  • Use of iTop will be available as a proof of concept soon; more details to follow.

Roundtable Reporting

Computer Science (Bill Ince)

  • Have made more progress with the firewall
  • Current estimate for the total damage caused by the flood is $500,000.
  • Occasionally the data in OAT is inaccurate; currently working on a way to fix that.

Math (Robyn Landers)

  • Moved our Research to new NetApp now.
  • With IST taking on the absence tracking system, on a bigger scale, should systems that are used by numerous groups on campus be supported by IST?
    • This will require further discussion.

Library (Carl Nagel)

  • Major upgrade of Primo over the weekend. It was supposed to be accompanied by hardware upgrade as well, but there was a miscommunication and it has been rescheduled for the middle of June.

Applied Health Sciences (Terry Stewart)

  • Trevor Bain will be starting on June 22nd in AHS as the Director of Information Technology.

IT Security (Jason Testart)

  • We have been investigating strong authentication solutions; there are lots of different options available.

Next meeting

The next meeting will be held on June 11, 2015 at 1:30pm, in EC2 111.
