Ten University of Waterloo researchers considered to be on the verge of a breakthrough will receive supplemental funding from Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC).
The recipients of Discovery Accelerator Supplements (DAS) are among Waterloo researchers who are receiving funding through Discovery Grants, Research Tools and Instruments grants, and Postgraduate and Postdoctoral fellowships.
The researchers selected by NSERC to receive a $120,000 DAS are:

Irene Goldthorpe (Electrical and Computer Engineering): Printable nanowire-based materials for the seamless integration of electronic functionality into textiles
Matteo Mariantoni (Physics and Astronomy): Toward a large-scale superconducting quantum computer: Error management and scalability
Luke Postle (Combinatorics and Optimization): Graph colouring and local algorithms
Laura Sanità (Combinatorics and Optimization): Efficient algorithms for optimization problems and their interplay with polyhedral combinatorics
Daniel Smilek (Psychology): Understanding the basic mechanisms of attentional engagement and disengagement
Boxin Zhao (Chemical Engineering): Biomimetic "smart" functional materials for developing soft robotic devices
