Christine Muschik

The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation has named Waterloo professor Christine Muschik a 2019 Sloan Research Fellow. Awarded annually, the fellowships are afforded to early-career scholars who represent promising scientific researchers.

A physics and astronomy professor, Muschik is an expert in the theory of quantum communication and quantum simulation. She is also a member of the Institute for Quantum Computing (IQC) and  Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics.

The Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics recently named Muschik an Emmy Noether Visiting Fellow. As a visiting fellow, Muschik has launched an interdisciplinary research effort to connect the field of quantum technologies with high-energy physics to explore quantum simulations of lattice gauge theories.

Muschik also leads the Quantum Networks and Quantum Simulations group at IQC to develop novel protocols for building and maintaining quantum communications networks. As a Sloan fellow, Muschik will receive $70,000 to further her research in quantum communications.
