A professor from the School of Public Health and Health Systems has received a C$300,000 award from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Susan Horton will use the grant to model how the recently released World Health Organization’s Essential Diagnostics List (EDL) might be applied in sub-Saharan African countries, and to evaluate the impact of this model on health outcomes and treatment costs. She will explore how a national EDL might differ from the WHO generic version, what the best way is to locate tests, and how access to EDL tests will affect health and cost outcomes of treatment.
