Systems design engineering professor Keith Hipel is one of five Canadian scholars and scientists named winners of the 2019 Killam Prize.
Awarded by the Canada Council for the Arts, the Killam Prize recognizes the career achievements of eminent Canadians actively engaged in research in the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, health sciences, and engineering.
The $100,000 prize was awarded to Professor Hipel for his unique interdisciplinary research on the development of conflict resolution, multiple criteria decision analysis, time series modelling and other decision-making methodologies to address complex system-of-systems problems lying at the confluence of society, technology, and the environment. He is the fifth professor at Waterloo to win a Killam Prize since the program started in 1981.
