Abstract:

In this talk, I'll discuss the status of hybrid key exchange (combining post-quantum and traditional algorithms) in standards set by the Internet Engineering Task Force. I'll summarize initiatives in several IETF protocols and working groups, including the basic hybrid ephemeral key exchange construction in the Transport Layer Security (TLS) 1.3 protocol, and several generic hybrid KEM constructions in the Crypto Forum Research Group's documents. The talk will also explore the provable security results for these hybrid constructions, including recent results showing security of the CFRG hybrid KEM constructions using the ProofFrog formal verification tool.
