Presidential Nominating Committee provides update

"The Presidential Nominating Committee is pleased to announce that it has begun work on its charge of finding and recommending an outstanding candidate for appointment as the seventh president of the University of Waterloo," writes Cindy Forbes, chair of the University's Board of Governors and the chair of the Presidential Nominating Committee. "The committee has developed a tentative timetable for its work which includes the following benchmarks: community and external consultations concluded, and the position profile drafted by the end of April; tentative list of candidates completed over the summer; candidate interviews during the fall. Although this timetable may change for a variety of reasons, the committee is working actively to meet it. In any event, the committee plans to complete its work by the end of the calendar year at the latest."

"In addition to those individuals who will be contacted as part of the committee’s extensive consultation process (including the current president, vice-presidents, associate vice-presidents, associate provosts, and deans) the committee looks forward to providing opportunities and channels for all members of the community to submit their views, via a variety of mechanisms, on the opportunities the next president will enjoy, the qualities and requirements necessary in the next president, the issues or challenges they may face, and how they should be prepared to meet these demands."

"The recent adoption of the University’s 2020-2025 Strategic Plan, “Connecting Imagination with Impact” demonstrates the University’s commitment to leverage its strengths to develop talent for a complex future, advance research for global impact, and strengthen sustainable and diverse communities. The committee is dedicated to identifying the right individual to continue to lead Waterloo on this ambitious and transformational path and seeks your help through these consultations."

"Further communications regarding consultation activities will follow soon. In the meantime, any member of the University of Waterloo community is invited to reach out to any member of the committee, or the University Secretary, to offer thoughts regarding the qualities and requirements for the next president, and the issues or challenges they may face, and the opportunities they should be prepared to take advantage of to meet these demands. All comments received will be held confidentially by the committee."
