by Kathy Becker

Overview

This session was prepared to share some tools, tips and techniques with Engineering faculty members preparing to teach online in fall 2020. More than 80 attendees participated in this session, which included a presentation by Umair Shah, Lecturer in the Department of Management Sciences, and a chat-based Q&A session.

Umair has been teaching fully-online undergraduate courses to Waterloo Engineering students since 2012. In his presentation, Umair highlighted effective techniques to rapidly port traditional in-person courses to remote and online format. Umair discussed a variety of tools, supported by UW, that can be used for synchronous or asynchronous teaching. This interactive session provided an opportunity for instructors to ask questions about challenges they face in delivering and preparing online courses.

CTE's Engineering Liaison, Richard Li, was available to respond to questions about LEARN and other teaching & learning tools. Stephen Tosh, Learning Technologies Analyst with CEL, was also available to respond to questions about learning technologies. And technical support for this event was provided by Yufei Du, Client Support Specialist with IST.
