Engineering Teaching Excellence Award

Purpose

Nominating exemplary teachers for teaching awards is an important way to acknowledge and recognize the value we place on teaching excellence. For this annual teaching award, nominations are submitted by department chairs and School directors to the associate dean, teaching & student Experience in October. The FoE TEA selection committee can acknowledge up to three (3) recipients per year. 

Award winners are recognized at the Faculty of Engineering Awards event.  

Eligible Nominee

  • Faculty member (teaching stream or tenure track);
  •  Has taught within the Faculty of Engineering for at least 2 years;
  • has demonstrated exemplary teaching;
  • and has yet to receive a Faculty of Engineering Teaching Excellence award.   

Nomination Package (maximum 4 pages)

A nomination package comprises the nominator’s letter from the chair or director, and the nominee’s statement.

Nominator’s Letter (maximum 2 pages)

  • Rationale for selecting the nominee;
  • Length of time the nominee has been teaching Faculty of Engineering students;
  • Summary of courses/topics taught by the nominee, highlighting range of teaching skills and/or innovations in teaching through novel pedagogy or curricular activities that have effectively facilitated student learning and improved student experience; and
  • A comment on the nominee’s contribution to teaching leadership and/or teaching skill development.

Nominee’s Statement (maximum 2 pages)

  • Description of teaching responsibilities, teaching-related activities, and student/learner mentoring for previous two (2) academic calendar years (e.g., Fall 2024 – Spring 2026);
  • Statement of teaching philosophy for ethical and inclusive teaching-learning;
  • Comment on teaching-learning opportunities provided beyond the classroom (e.g., student guidance/mentoring of design/project teams, community outreach);
  • Evidence of impact on learner development through teaching and/or educational innovation (may include anonymized comments provided by students); and
  • Evidence of teaching development and/or teaching leadership within the Faculty of Engineering and/or beyond.
