Teaching Development Fund

About

The Teaching Development Fund (TDF) supports professional development that strengthens teaching practice and teaching-related scholarship across engineering, architecture and business/entrepreneurship. It is funded by the Faculty of Engineering's Dean's Office and is administered by the Teaching and Student Experience Office.

Please contact engtl@uwaterloo.ca if you have any questions.

Who can apply

Engineering faculty members (teaching stream and tenure track) are eligible to apply.

Sessional instructors, postdoctoral students and staff are not eligible; please speak to your Chair/Director about teaching development support.

What the fund supports

The TDF reimburses Faculty of Engineering full-time faculty members for registration costs for teaching-learning conferences and workshops.

In our pilot year, we will support faculty members by reimbursing registration fees for the Canadian Engineering Education Association (CEEA-ACEG) conference in Moncton, New Brunswick (June 13 – 17, 2026).

Faculty members can pitch discipline-specific teaching and learning conference registration fees to be covered by the TDF by emailing engtl@uwaterloo.ca.

Recipient obligations

Within two terms of the funded activity, recipients share key takeaways at a Teaching and Learning Champions event (roundtable, panel, presentation and/or handout shared with colleagues).

How to apply

Complete a short proposal form; applications are processed on a rolling basis. Proof of attendance is required before reimbursement is processed.
