GIS Speed Run Sessions: GIS Data Types and Open Data

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is a multi-disciplinary tool that is widely used across the architecture industry. Attend this 30-minute speed run session to learn about different types of GIS data, and where to find open data for use in assignments and research.

This presentation, with a question & answer session, will provide examples of different data types, and provide start-up resources for sourcing open data.

Generative AI and the Literature Review

The literature review can be a challenging and time-consuming component of a research project. Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) can’t write your literature review for you, but this workshop will explore and introduce GenAI tools you may use as supports in the literature review process. We will identify ethical, legal, and intellectual property pitfalls associated with GenAI use, and offer guidelines and strategies for productive, ethical, and appropriate use of specific GenAI tools for specific purposes at each stage of the research and writing process.

Climate Crossroads: interdisciplinary networking workshop for students

Join the Waterloo Climate Institute and Sustainability Office on Wednesday September 24th for a workshop and information session. This interactive event will give students the opportunity to discover climate-related programs, learning and action on campus, network with like-minded students and share ideas for how you'd like to see climate in your curriculum.

Open to Waterloo students from all faculties and programs. Snacks, coffee and tea will be provided. Drop-ins welcome!

As part of the Water Institute's WaterTalks lecture series, Soumya Balasubramanya, Senior Economist at The World Bank, Washington, DC, will present "Recent trends in groundwater use in South Asia: The role of technology and water-energy-food-poverty nexus tradeoffs."

Join us for an online information session showcasing the POSEIDON water quality portal, hosted by Dr. Nandita Basu, Dr. Julie Mai (University of Waterloo), Dr. Kimberly Van Meter (Penn State University), and Meghan McLeod (DataStream).

Powered by AI and informed by stream nutrient concentration data synthesized by DataStream, POSEIDON predicts nutrient concentrations and loads at daily, monthly and annual scales, for hundreds of streams across Canada.

This session will showcase the portal’s key functionalities and provide an opportunity for you to share feedback that will help us improve its design and usefulness.
