XChanges 2024 is committed to dismantling oppressive systemic barriers within BIPOC spaces and weaving together the experiences and ideologies of racialized health care physicians. By highlighting the insufficient support received by BIPOC communities, our aim is to significantly impact students’ mental health, and prioritize their well-being. By including the nine dimensions of wellness for racialized students to learn and understand mental health, we are on a mission to foster a community that embraces the mind, creating an environment where students feel empowered to seek and receive the support they need comfortably.

WISE is pleased to announce a hybrid WISE Public Lecture with Dr. Ricardo Álvarez, Associate Professor, and Pablo Oteiza, Master Thesis Student, from the Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María. Please join us in person or on Zoom for a discussion on the well-functioning planning, grid access, and interconnection procedures that are key to ensuring that transmission systems support competition in generation and a sustainable and reliable electricity supply. The ongoing transformation of the power sector is increasing the number and variety of resources seeking grid interconnection, thus requiring proper and timely expansion and reinforcement of the transmission system. This presentation reviews recent changes in the Chilean regulatory framework to address current challenges, identifying changes that have had a positive impact and those that have not. Following the presentation, a discussion can be held to compare regulatory frameworks in Canada and Chile, identify common challenges, and explore how both countries have addressed them.

September 28, 2024 marks the 21st anniversary of the Gidinawendamin/Ska’nikú•lát annual Pow Wow.

This one-day non-competitive celebration of Indigenous heritage features vendors, dancers, and singers from the Waterloo region and beyond. Join us as we celebrate Indigenous culture and tradition through song, dance, arts, and cuisine. Gidinawendamin/Ska’nikú•lát Pow Wow is intended to be a safe, welcoming, and vibrant opportunity for Indigenous and non-Indigenous folks from the UWaterloo community and beyond to gather in celebration of indigenization, decolonization, and reconciliation.

Dr. Enayat Moallemi, Principal Research Scientist at Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO), applies a holistic view of system interactions with modelling tools and knowledge co-production methods to design and evaluate decisions for sustainability transitions in an uncertain future.

In this workshop, participants will take part in the online version of the Warm Data Lab approach. We start with a story, and through context-spanning conversation we explore together what emerges, keeping in mind Nora's question "Who can I be when I am with you?" as we explore how people need people.
