Queer Film Series - Paris is Burning

Thursday, February 15, 2024 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm EST (GMT -05:00)

A monthly film series featuring films with queer characters and themes. This month we're watching Paris is Burning, which creates a vibrant snapshot of 1980s African-American ball culture in New York City. The film features a host of legendary performers including Pepper LaBeija, Dorian Corey, Venus Xtravaganza, Willi Nija.

Voguing, throwing shade, realness, fierceness. It all started in the ball scene featured in the movie.

The film touches on topics of poverty and homophobia, which were prevalent in the queer community at the time. It documents the severe racism, violence, and discrimination faced by the ballroom culture. This movie projects themes of strength, resilience against adversity, and tolerance.

These screenings are free, but registration is required. Register here.

Future screenings will be on the third Thursday of each month.
