Slowing Down and Showing Up: Leading with Presence

Thursday, November 2, 2023 10:00 am - 11:30 am EDT (GMT -04:00)

Mindfulness @ Work workshop for staff

Dr. Ellen Choi, Assistant Professor, Toronto Metropolitan University, will lead this 90-minute workshop (in-person and online) on a mindfulness-based approach to leadership. The workshop is open to all University of Waterloo staff.

During this research-based approach to mindfulness and wellbeing at work, participants will learn about mindfulness concepts, the science behind the practice, and experience traditional mindfulness practices along with several short mental techniques that support the underlying facets of attentional control and emotion regulation. Participants will also be introduced to the self-awareness, self-regulation, and self-transcendence model of mindfulness, which will be applied to leadership so participants can see how paying mind to oneself enables the capacity to lead others.

Event objectives

  • Learn about what mindfulness is and how it is relevant to leadership.
  • Engage in practices that help cultivate mindfulness.
  • Leave with practical ways mindfulness can be applied

This Mindfulness @ Work event is organized by UW staff members with funding from the Staff Excellence Fund.
