This concert will feature world-renowned musician and scholar Trichy Sankaran, along with Suba Sankaran and Dylan Bell - well renowned musicians in their own right who have appeared at Grebel before with Autorickshaw.

Indian classical music is the art music of the Indian subcontinent. The origins of this music can be found in the Vedas, which are the oldest scriptures in the Hindu tradition dating back to 1500 BCE. The salient elements of Indian classical music are raga (melody) and tala (rhythm) as well as solkattu (south Indian rhythmic solfege language, not dissimilar to western beatboxing or vocal percussion). Today’s concert features improvised solos, traditional classical compositions and contemporary original works. 

As part of the Water Institute's WaterTalks lecture series, Megan Konar, William J. and Elaine F. Hall Faculty Fellow, Associate Professor, Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA, presents, "Water Resources and Food Supply Chains."

Megan will discuss two recent papers related to her work assessing water resources and food supply chains

Part #1. Groundwater depletion embedded in domestic transfers and international exports of the United States

Part #2. Food flows between counties in the United States

The Problem Lab and the Faculty of Environment present an information session on the concept of the triple bottom line. A panel of speakers and subject matter experts will speak about the importance of social and environmental considerations that companies can build into their organizations. Using case studies and real-world examples, you will understand how companies can apply the triple bottom line to enhance people's lives and the well-being of the planet.

Join alum Juan Miguel Arrazola, PhD ’15, as he shares his career journey and talks about current research.

Juan Miguel Arrazola is currently leading the quantum algorithms team at Xanadu, a quantum computing company located in Toronto. Prior to joining Xanadu in 2017, Arrazola worked as a Research Fellow at the Centre for Quantum Technologies in Singapore. He holds an MSc in Physics from the University of Toronto and a PhD in Physics (Quantum Information) from the Institute for Quantum Computing at the University of Waterloo.

You’ll gain valuable insights into how engaging narratives can be used to create empathy, make connections, clarify meaning, and enhance audience experiences in pitch competitions using design and storytelling.

In this seminar learn from Dr. Maritza Salazar Campo, Assistant Professor of Organization & Management at the Paul Merage School of Business, University of California Irvine.

We are excited to share a free, virtual community screening of the acclaimed film, Trick or Treaty, directed by Alanis Obomsawin followed by a discussion with Robin Stadelbauer, Indigenous Relations Coordinator and Professor Susan Roy.

This is open to all members of our Waterloo campus community and beyond. There are two ways you can participate in this event:

Join Chris Wilson, faculty member at the Institute for Quantum Computing (IQC) and the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, in conversation with scientific outreach manager John Donohue. They’ll discuss his latest journal article entitled “Quantum Simulation of the Bosonic Creutz Ladder with a Parametric Cavity” was published in Physical Review Letters on September 2, 2021. His team has developed a new quantum simulator that uses microwave photons in a superconducting cavity to simulate particles on a lattice similar to those found in superconductors or atomic nuclei.
