Healthy Interdependence: Being there

Wednesday, July 10, 2019 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm EDT (GMT -04:00)

Join us for a series of workshops on how to develop and deepen mutually supportive relationships, and how to build inclusive communities and support those around us. Snacks and tea provided!

Research shows that people who are more socially integrated and who experience more supportive and rewarding relationships with others have better mental health, higher levels of subjective
well-being, and lower rates of morbidity and mortality. At the same time, 73% of UW students said they "Felt very lonely" within the past 12 months, with almost half of those saying they had felt very lonely in the past 2 weeks (2016 NCHA-II University of Waterloo).

July 10 "Being there": When done well, giving support can be just as rewarding as receiving it. Let’s discuss how to effectively offer and provide help without sacrificing our own wellbeing.

These events will strive to be socially accessible, meaning that social missteps will be tolerated and any unspoken rules will be explained. You can contact the event facilitator at disabilityallianceUW@gmail.com with any questions or if you are apprehensive about attending.

The workshops will be held in Dana Porter Library's newly renovated Learning Lab on the third floor.
