Nature Based Solutions

FINCAPES is dedicated to addressing Indonesia's priorities for research, innovation, and collaboration, with a focus on safeguarding the nation's most vulnerable resources and communities. Our mission is to promote and catalyze a sustainable and climate-resilient Indonesia by enhancing the capabilities of government agencies, universities, and associated partners in three critical areas.

Accelerating Nature-based Solutions (NbS)

At the heart of our efforts is the acceleration of Nature-based Solutions (NbS) for peatland and mangrove conservation and restoration. These ecosystems are crucial to Indonesia’s climate adaptation and mitigation strategies. Our initiatives will:

• Conserve and Restore Ecosystems: Implement NbS to protect and rehabilitate peatlands and mangroves, which are vital for maintaining ecological balance and mitigating climate impacts.
• Support Biodiversity and Carbon Sequestration: Enhance biodiversity preservation and boost carbon absorption, contributing to global efforts to combat climate change.
• Promote Sustainable Livelihoods: Foster sustainable livelihoods for communities dependent on these ecosystems, ensuring economic benefits while protecting natural resources.

Establishing an NbS Applied Research Center

FINCAPES will help establish a state-of-the-art NbS applied research center at IPB University. This center will be a hub for:

• Research and Development: Conducting cutting-edge research to develop and refine NbS techniques and models.
• Pilot Projects: Implementing pilot projects in target communities to test and demonstrate the effectiveness of these solutions.
• Knowledge Dissemination: Sharing findings and best practices to support widespread adoption of NbS across Indonesia and beyond.

Complementing Government Efforts

Our work aligns with and supports the Government of Indonesia's critical ecosystem restoration efforts. By collaborating with governmental bodies, FINCAPES aims to:

• Enhance Policy and Action: Provide evidence-based recommendations to inform and strengthen policy frameworks for ecosystem restoration.
• Foster Collaboration: Build strong partnerships between government agencies, academic institutions, and local communities to ensure cohesive and comprehensive conservation strategies.
• Drive National and Local Initiatives: Support both national and local initiatives aimed at restoring and preserving Indonesia’s vital ecosystems.
