The Climate Change Summit (COP26) is now underway in Glasgow, UK, and Waterloo is maintaining its (virtual) engagement in the summit in various ways.
With the University of Waterloo being a member of the University Global Coalition (UGC), the Sustainability Office and Waterloo International collaborated to secure a spot on the UGC’s Annual Gathering this past September. Joined by international partners the University at Buffalo and Universidad Carlos III Madrid, the half-hour session investigating international climate change networks served as the closing panel of the Annual Gathering. Waterloo International (WI) recently collaborated with Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs (GSPA) to showcase the University of Waterloo’s academic and research strengths, including graduate studies opportunities, to prospective graduate students and other stakeholders, from Latin America and Egypt.

Dr. Rowlands’ scholarly activities during his 2020 sabbatical focused on energy sustainability and internationalization in higher education; for the latter part of this work, he had an affiliation with the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) as a Special Advisor.
The University of Waterloo and the University of Strathclyde are jointly hosting a virtual research colloquium, expected to provide an interactive space for graduate students from the participating universities to present their research and receive constructive feedback from international scholars in their respective fields.
International Week 2020 is a collaborative effort, organized by a wide array of departments, units and student groups at the University of Waterloo, with coordination by Waterloo International. Thanks to everyone who has participated in International Week 2020 (IW) so far this week. To date, numerous campus partners from across the University of Waterloo have hosted events that highlight the value of multilingualism and intercultural understanding in today’s globalized world and there are many more events planned for the rest of the week.
The University of Waterloo has built a strong international profile, which is supported by over 200 international collaboration agreements with governments, universities, and other organizations located in more than 50 countries.
Today is the first day of International Week 2020. International Week is a great opportunity to recognize and promote the value of international and intercultural experiences, collaboration abroad and the importance of internationalization on campus.
