Katie is a Master of Applied Environmental Studies (MAES) student, in Local Economic Development, in the Faculty of Environment’s School of Environment, Enterprise and Development. Katie’s work takes a unique look at local economic development from a sustainability perspective. Her research looks at the growth of community energy plans in Canada and the role they play in advancing local economic development, environmental sustainability and efficiency, building community resiliency, and how strategic partnerships can aid with community energy plan implementation.

Katie’s research takes a particular focus on the challenges of community energy plan implementation and the role of implementation structures, partnerships and stakeholders in successful plan implementation. She is interested to know if lessons can be taken from research on the keys to success for community sustainability plan implementation to provide transferrable insight into successful community energy plan implementation. Katie hopes her research will assist with helping communities implement community energy plans, moving sustainability forward at the local level.
