Tracelyn Cornelius

PhD candidate

Tracelyn Cornelius is a PhD candidate in Sustainability Management in the School of Environment, Enterprise, and Development (SEED). Tracelyn’s research interest includes connecting sustainability management theory to anti-racism, equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) implementation , program design and best practices.

She recently completed a Masters of Environment and Business degree, where she focused on highlighting the intersection of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and EDI, specifically, identifying barriers to implementation within Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). Tracelyn also holds Graduate Diplomas in Public Relations, Marketing Management, Management, Project Management, and Strategic Communications from the University of Winnipeg, and a Bachelor of Science degree from Skidmore College in New York.

Tracelyn Cornelius has more than 20 years of experience working in strategic communications, journalism, and education. She joined Waterloo International in 2019 as the international communications specialist and is currently on secondment as the anti-racism communications manager at University Relations, where she supports strategic communications for the President’s Anti-racism Taskforce (PART) and provides guidance to senior leaders on communications related to tackling systemic racism at the University of Waterloo.

Tracelyn is also involved in planning and coordinating PART’s activities, which includes supporting the Executive Planning committee, working closely with the President's executive-designate for PART. She is also a member of PART’s Professional and Academic Development working group and the University’s Employment Equity working group. Tracelyn also sits on the Inclusive Communications Steering Committee within University Relations.

She is also a part-time instructor at Conestoga College.
