Our network seeks to enhance students’ sense of belonging and wellbeing through on campus esports programming. On campus competitive and recreational esports programs have the potential to connect students from diverse academic backgrounds and faculties, thereby potentially expanding students’ social networks and peer support opportunities.
Our Athletics and Recreation department currently supports programming that provides recreational services to over 300 students per month. Our varsity esports teams compete at an international level – having won several championships. This momentum has led to the perfect intersection for the University of Waterloo to further develop esports research, student offerings, and private partnerships. Our campus is developing physical space and technological infrastructure to support safe and healthy esports and gaming environments. Additionally, our network has solidified an institutional partnership with the University of Warwick to explore international experiences for our students and staff.
