The University of Waterloo Welcomes His Excellency, Andrea Ferrari, Ambassador of Italy
The University of Waterloo was honoured to welcome His Excellency, Andrea Ferrari, Ambassador of Italy, Dr. Luca Zelioli, Consul General of Italy and Dr. Costanza Conti, Scientific Attaché, to campus last week. The delegation came to explore Waterloo’s innovative research activities in the areas of science and technology as well as to explore Waterloo’s robust innovation ecosystem.
They met with representatives from the Waterloo Institute for Nanotechnology, Institute for Quantum Computing, Waterloo Centre for Astrophysics, Waterloo Artificial Intelligence Institute and the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics to learn more about cutting-edge research happening at Waterloo, including meeting with Nobel Laureate Donna Strickland.
Discussions at Waterloo explored potential mutual interests between Waterloo and Italian institutions across learning, research and community areas. Over the past four years (2019-2022), there were more than 400 publications with at least one Waterloo author and one author based at an Italian institution (source: Scopus); close to 200 of those involved 10 authors or less (Scival). Waterloo members who would like to learn more – or who would like to share information about their own work with Italy – are encouraged to reach out to the Waterloo International, International Relations Manager, whose areas of responsibility include Italy, Eric Jardin (international.relations@uwaterloo.ca).
