ISOLDE XI
ISOLDE XI was held in Santa Barbara from June 26 through July 1, 2008 organized by Richard Church.
Santa Barbara is a destination resort community on the gold coast of California. The meeting began on the modern and picturesque campus of the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB). UCSB is a world class research university featuring Nobel laureates in Physics, Chemistry, and Economics. The first three days of the conference was held on the campus of UCSB, which has over a mile and half of beach along the Pacific Ocean. Lodging was available on campus in a residence building just steps from the beach. For those who wanted off campus accommodations, arrangements were made at several nearby hotels. The welcoming dinner was held at the Faculty Club on campus.
The second portion of the conference was held at the five star world famous Fess Parker’s Doubletree resort. This resort is within steps of the beach, a short walk to the harbor and within steps of a cross town electric shuttle, which can whisk you towards the center of town along the quaint main street of Santa Barbara.
The day of relaxation and transition between conference venues brought the participants to the world class vineyards and wineries of Santa Barbara. Climate and soils contribute to make this a perfect location for viticulture. The closing conference dinner was held overlooking the blue Pacific at the Rotunda of The Fess Parker Resort.
