Juan received a 2016 New Investigator award at the International Society for the Study of Fatty Acids and Lipids meeting in Stellenbosch, South Africa. During the conference he gave three presentations related to his research on eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA): 1) Examining methods to determine the fatty acid and lipid composition of human breast milk; 2) Lipidomic profiling of dried blood spots requires a tailored extraction procedure to maximize yields of highly polar lipids; and 3) Lipidomic profiling of human whole blood after intakes of 250 mg/d, 500 mg/d and 1000 mg/d of EPA+DHA from fish oil.
