5 Questions: Mark Anderton

Once a month the Student Engagement and Communications Assistant co-op student interviews Library staff to provide patrons with a peek behind the bookstacks at all the work that happens to provide a variety of services and resources that support the learning, research and innovation that happens at Waterloo.

This month, co-op student Emily Fitzgerald interviewed Mark Anderton, Library Coordinator and Supervisor in Circulation Services at Musagetes Library.

The outpouring of support from the community for the Library on Giving Tuesday this year, November 28, helped us raise over $20,000 from 43 donors!

Our Challenge Champion, Don Cowan (MSC ’61, PHD ’65), helped us surpass our 2023 goal of raising $15,000 by matching donations up to $5,000. Donations to the Library came in early and often, encouraging an additional $1,500 in matching donations to further boost our success.

Gender Studies at the Library

The University of Waterloo’s Special Collections & Archives opened in 1976 with its foundational collection: the Lady Aberdeen Memorial Library, showcasing the history of women. It had been donated several years earlier to the Arts Library (now known as Dana Porter Library) under the stewardship of Doris Lewis, Waterloo’s first University Librarian.

What is Open Access, anyway?

Open Access Week is acknowledged during the last full week of October around the world to increase awareness of the open access movement. The Open Access movement seeks to promote free and open online access to academic information, such as research articles and data.

Once a month the Student Engagement and Communications Assistant co-op student interviews Library staff to provide Library patrons with a peek behind the bookstacks at all the work that happens to provide a variety of services and resources that support the learning, research and innovation that happens at Waterloo. 

This month, co-op student Meray Philobbos interviewed Beth Namachchivaya, University Librarian to coincide with National Library Month, a celebration of the valuable role libraries play in the lives of Canadians.
