When David Emery signed up for his first library card at age eight, he began an enduring relationship with libraries that transformed his life in profound ways.
The University of Waterloo’s Special Collections & Archives opened in 1976 with its foundational collection: the Lady Aberdeen Memorial Library, showcasing the history of women. It had been donated several years earlier to the Arts Library (now known as Dana Porter Library) under the stewardship of Doris Lewis, Waterloo’s first University Librarian.
More than 100 students from four programs (BME, SYDE, MECH, and GENE) participated in the inaugural Biomedical Stakeholder Café.
As part of our mission to support Open Access at the University of Waterloo, the Library hosts over a dozen Open Access journals originating from students, staff and faculty across a variety of topics, from the Canadian Graduate Journal of Sociology and Criminology to University of Waterloo Journal of Undergraduate Health Research.
Open Access Week is acknowledged during the last full week of October around the world to increase awareness of the open access movement. The Open Access movement seeks to promote free and open online access to academic information, such as research articles and data.
