Welcome to the McCutcheon Geomicrobiology Lab
Our group investigates microbe-mineral-water interactions in natural and engineered environments. We use a multi-analytical approach to study microbially mediated biogeochemical reactions including mineral precipitation and dissolution, microbial mat structure and chemistry, microbe-metal interactions, and microbial nutrient acquisition in extreme environments. We aim to understand how these small-scale processes impact large-scale systems and apply these findings to environmental challenges. Our team conducts field and laboratory studies targeting mine sites, wetlands, and polar habitats. Learn more about research happening in the Geomicrobiology Lab.
