Retirement of SharePoint Alerts

Microsoft will be retiring SharePoint Alerts. Modern notification solutions based upon the Power Automate platform or SharePoint Rules can be used as alternatives.

Any active SharePoint Alerts will need to be converted to Power Automate flows or SharePoint RulesAlerts will be removed.

When is this happening? 

  • Starting in October 2025, SharePoint Alerts will start to expire with option to re-enable.
  • Starting in January 2026, creation of SharePoint Alerts will gradually be turned off.
  • Starting in July 2026, the ability to use SharePoint Alerts will be removed.
