Memorable moments

  • In September 2007 Prof. Yang received the Manning Award of Distinction, sponsored by CanWest Global, for his inventive solutions for data compression. The Ernest C. Manning Awards Foundation has been recognizing and encouraging innovation in Canada since 1982. It grants awards to Canadians who have demonstrated recent innovative talent in developing and successfully marketing a new concept, process or procedure.

  • In April 2007 Prof. Yang received Premier's Catalyst Award from the hands of Premier of Ontario, Dalton McGuinty. More details, along with a short video, can be found here.

  • The 2003 Canadian Workshop on Information Theory was held on the campus of University of Waterloo, from May 18th to 21st, 2003. This Workshop provides an opportunity for Canadian as well as international researchers in Information Theory to meet and discuss aspects of their work.

  • On June 6, 2002, the Leitch Technology Corporation and the University of Waterloo officially announced their commitment of support to the Leitch-University of Waterloo Multimedia Communications Laboratory, which will provide leading-edge computing and testing facilities to support research in multimedia communications.
