On August 9th, U.S. President Biden signed into law the CHIPS and Science Act of 2022. The influx of billions of dollars in investments spurred on by this act will stimulate the Nanotechnology Engineering sector across North America creating new research and employment opportunities.
The Act will provide funding for semiconductor research, development, and production. Semiconductors or microchips are an integral part of many of the products society relies upon, ranging from electronics to health care equipment. The COVID-19 pandemic sparked a global shortage of microchips, accentuating North America’s reliance on internationally made chips.
This Act and the accompanying funding will further propel nanotechnology engineering to be considered a mainstream engineering discipline. This new focus and funding will ensure accelerated research and an expansive future for nanotechnology engineering in North America.
