SannTek collects more awards

SannTek, creators of a nanotechnology-based sensor that can immediately detect and quantify an individual’s degree of marijuana intoxication, has added another couple awards to their growing list of accomplishments.

En route to developing their Nanotechnology Engineering Capstone Design project into a commercial venture, Chris Taylor, Noah DeBrincat, Karolyn Mackwiak, Benjamin Milligan and Thomas Dunlop, aka SannTek, have been looking for funding and finding success among some strong competition.

On March 27 the team won a Norman Esch Entrepreneurship Award for Capstone Design in a competition against more than 50 teams of fourth-year Engineering students. The Esch Foundation distributes up to six of these awards to Waterloo Engineering students each year to support the development of students receiving training in the interdisciplinary applications of Engineering Sciences.

One day later, a convincing three-minute pitch at the Velocity Fund Finals won them a $25,000 award for later stage companies, $5,000 of IP legal services and workspace in the Velocity Garage startup incubator.

Congratulations to the SannTek team for their hard work and tenacity in moving their company forward and their marijuana breathalyzer closer to production.
