NE teams win Concept $5k pitch competition

Monday, April 6, 2020

Congratulations to the SMRT Coat and iuvoderm teams for their success in the Winter 2020 Concept $5k Pitch Competition.

SMRT Coat, represented by team members Daniel Stranart and Luke Wiersma, won one of four $5,000 prizes for their helmet coating that provides a Simple Method for Recognizing Trauma. Upon impact, SMRT Coat changes colour, indicating that the athlete wearing the helmet has suffered a severe blow to the head. The cost-effective coating gives players, coaches and referees a fast and easy-to-detect sign that they need to take appropriate action to safeguard the athlete.

Iuvoderm, represented by Tiana Colantonio and Adrianus Matthew Sukuramsyah, won one of two People’s Champ awards for their drug-infused antimicrobial hydrogel wound dressing that helps to heal diabetic foot ulcers. The one-step low-cost dressing, which facilitates rapid wound closure, makes it easier for diabetic people to care for themselves and avoid complications.
