Canadian rock icon to perform at Canada Day Celebration
Kim Mitchell and the award-winning Strumbellas are just a few of the highlights at this year's Canada Day Celebration on July 1 #UWCanadaDay
The University of Waterloo and the Federation of Students thank the community every year by hosting Waterloo Region's flagship Canada Day Celebration. Last year, the University marked the 30th anniversary of the celebration with more than 60,000 people in attendance. Organizers are looking forward to bringing the community together for another exceptional event this year on Wednesday July 1, 2015.
The family fun begins at 4 p.m. with on-field activations, interactive activities, and live performances by popular Vancouver-based children’s musical duo, Bobs & LoLo. Kids won’t want to miss seeing them light up the TVOKids Stage featuring beloved TVOKids host, Gisèle Corinthios.
Outstanding national talent will headline the OpenText Stage this year, with Juno-award winners, The Strumbellas, kicking off the live outdoor concert at 7 p.m. and Canadian rock icon, Kim Mitchell, closing out the show with a performance starting at 8:30 p.m. The spectacular fireworks display starts at 10 p.m.
Families can explore a number of activities from face painting and arts and crafts, to inflatable obstacle courses. Back for another year are the talented Silly People, so be sure to catch a super silly show on the field, or get snapped in our Canada Day photo booth, and even cool off on the University of Waterloo Engineering Society water slide. Everyone can fill up on tasty festival treats from a variety of local food vendors, and adults can relax and enjoy a refreshing break in the beer garden from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. with a craft beer from Ontario’s first and largest microbrewery, Waterloo Brewing Co.
