We're proud to kick things off with Emily Pass, a third-year Science undergraduate student who is a recipient of the National Co-op of the Year Award for developing a data analysis program that rapidly detects objects in the Kuiper Belt, a region of space beyond Neptune. Pass has also won awards at the provincial and faculty levels.

Prospective students who have a hard time choosing between Waterloo’s civil engineering and architecture programs will now have another option beginning next year: architectural engineering.
The new Waterloo Engineering offering, which combines architectural design with building engineering, will launch in September 2018.
Developed to cover the whole gamut of building design, construction, assessment and refurbishment, the recently approved program will provide students with the technical knowledge and skills to design energy and structurally efficient buildings.
To get at the heart of a unique design specialization within the Professional Master of Engineering (MEng) degree program at the University of Waterloo, instructor Oscar Nespoli likes to use chess as an analogy.
Natalya O’Neill is the winner of the Faculty of Science’s Co-op Student of the Year Award. She spent two work terms with the hematology unit at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto, where she created a medical alert card and educational booklet for patients with asplenia, or abnormal spleen function, and at high risk of infection. In addition to winning her Faculty’s Co-op Student of the Year Award, she also received an honourable mention for the Education at Work Ontario (EWO) Co-op Student of the Year Award.
Making photocopies wasn’t part of Jordan Grant’s job description. Neither were taking minutes, writing reports or any of the run-of-the-mill duties you’d expect to encounter in your first-year work term.
