The Faculty of Mathematics at Waterloo — the world’s largest math faculty— will host a first-decade panel on Wednesday to kick off a year of events.

UWaterloo is celebrating its 60^th anniversary this year.

The spirit of risk-taking at the University of Waterloo paid dividends today when federal cabinet minister Bardish Chagger announced $32.6 million in funding for the new Engineering 7 building now under construction on the east campus.

“I’m confident that this new facility will lead to discoveries that will bring significant benefits to our country,” said Chagger, the Waterloo MP who serves as both Government House Leader and the Minister of Small Business and Tourism.

In 2017, the University of Waterloo celebrates 60 years of innovation. When it was founded July 1, 1957, no one knew that a campus made up of two temporary buildings would have such a lasting impact on the world.

In an effort to deepen our understanding about racism, the University of Waterloo is hosting a panel discussion that explores the effects of racism on health and well-being.

“We value human diversity and endeavour to foster an equitable living and learning community at Waterloo,” says Director of Equity Mahejabeen Ebrahim. “We all have a role to play in eliminating racism from our communities so that it doesn’t continue to diminish us.”

It's been an exceptional year for the Faculty of Applied Health Sciences (AHS). Thank you to the AHS community for your continued support. We hope that you are as proud of the Faculty's accomplishments as we are and join us in celebrating our continued impact on health and well-being.

Boxin Zhao reaches for a dispenser, tears off a strip of cellophane tape and sticks it to the top of his desk at the University of Waterloo, deliberately leaving a few centimetres of it flopping over the edge in front of him.

He grabs the overhanging tab of tape and forcefully yanks it towards himself. It doesn’t budge. Then he lifts the tape up and away from himself instead, slowly peeling the strip off the desk with no effort at all.

In 2017, the University of Waterloo will celebrate 60 years of innovation, and it will host a special event to launch this milestone year with a keen eye to the future.

Over the next 60 years, the pace of innovation and change will increase exponentially. The intersection of the human condition with new technologies — from quantum computing to artificial intelligence — have the world on the edge of a great new frontier, where the private can become public at the click of a button, and lines between person and machine are increasingly blurred.

In keeping with a holiday tradition, we hope you enjoy this year’s Faculty of Environment holiday video. It’s a bit of a riddle with a good dose of fun and a message that’s straight from the heart.
