Winners of the inaugural Christie Design Awards were announced Friday at the University of Waterloo Stratford Campus.

A partnership between Christie Digital Systems Canada, Inc. (“Christie®”) and the University of Waterloo Stratford Campus, the Christie Design Awards provide students with ongoing opportunities to explore and learn the capabilities of interactive display.

More than 120 first-year Global Business and Digital Arts (GBDA) students from Stratford campus participated in the competition.

Hilary Mason, listed in Fast Company's 100 Most Creative People in Business 2013, will headline a Canadian Open Data Experience (CODE) event at the University of Waterloo Stratford Campus this week.

Mason is a data scientist in residence at leading venture capital firm Accel Partners, and will speak at CODE's Inspiration Day program in Stratford on February 28. She will share the impact of Big Data, its possibilities, and the need for creative interpretation. Mason is a member of NYC Resistor and Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s Technology and Innovation Advisory Council.

Now, on Saturday March 1, she’ll get a chance to share the Waterloo excitement with thousands of prospective students.

High school students who have applied to the University of Waterloo will be among the 6,000 people expected at the March Open House at the Waterloo campus on Saturday, March 1.

"This campus-wide event gives applicants and parents the opportunity to visit campus, attend sessions, and participate in activities that will enable them to learn about Waterloo," said Andrea Santi, manager of the visitors centre at the Waterloo campus.  "We hope that this day will help applicants make the most informed choice when selecting where to get their university education."

Heather Moyse and her longtime sled partner Kaillie Humphries made Olympic history in Sochi this week. The pair became the first women to win gold medals in consecutive Olympics for the two-man bobsled event. The pair triumphed over their close competitors on the U.S. team in the final heats on Wednesday.

Involvement in lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender (LGBT) sport groups makes gay and lesbian athletes feel better about their sexual identity and helps them come out in their everyday lives, according to research from the University of Waterloo.

An innovative collaboration will provide University of Waterloo students and entrepreneurs the opportunity to work together when Stratford's Accelerator Centre relocates to the University of Waterloo Stratford Campus this spring.

When 2010 Olympic gold medalist Heather Moyse arrived at Canada’s national bobsleigh training facility for testing in August, expectations were low.

Less than a year before, the Waterloo kinesiology graduate had undergone surgery to repair a torn labrum in her right hip. The surgery left her unable to train for weeks, and jeopardized her ability to return to the sport at an elite level.

But with a 5.50 second-start that day, Moyse proved to herself and her coaches that not only was she back— but she was faster and stronger than before.
