Images of Breccia Being Loaded into Van

June 12th - Yellowknife, NWT

Gary Vivian of Aurora Geosciences Ltd and Robin Wyllie picked up a sample of Giant Mine Breccia with a payloader and took it to Manitoulin Transport in one of their 1 ton transporters. The boulder's real weight is 2292 lb! It certainly would present significant challenges to any keen-eyed rock hounds thinking of grabbing a piece of gold for themselves. The sulphide content alone will likely preclude any attempts to sample it too. The Breccia arrived in Waterloo a week later and was placed in the Peter Russell Rock Garden on June 24th. A gathering of colleagues, family, and friends to remember Gwilym Roberts is being planned.

For those curious, the inscription will be:

Shear-hosted lode gold in Breccia
Archean Kam Group,
Yellowknife Greenstone Belt, Slave Craton
Giant Mine, Yellowknife, Northwest Territories
