Abstract

An innovative machine tool design process which combines process stability simulation and structural topology optimization is proposed in this paper. A desired initial design concept can be obtained via the aid of structural topology optimization. After finishing designing machine tool, process stability can be predicted by simulated finite element model which is prior to the fabrication of the whole machine tool. A practical machine tool design is carried out to demonstrate the result of the proposed design process.
