What mental health supports are available for sessional faculty and post-doctoral students?

Sessional faculty and post-doctoral fellows are eligible for service in the Family Clinic at Health Services.  The physicians and nurses in the Family Clinic provide mental health assessment and treatment.  Counselling Services and Psychiatric Services are through student ancillary fees (paid by undergraduate and graduate students).  These fees do not apply to faculty and post-doctoral fellows.

Benefit eligibility for post-doctoral students and faculty hired on contract depends on the length of their employment and is found on the human resources website. Everyone can access the Government of Canada’s Wellness Together Canada program that will provide mental health and substance abuse support to all Canadians experiencing impacts from the COVID-19 pandemic. The initiative is funded by Health Canada and provides an online portal that allows Canadians to access self-assessments, self-directed mental health tools, peer support, and live counselling by various online means.
