The university’s Senate convened for its regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, May 21, to discuss a range of agenda items including the institution’s operating budget for 2013-2014 and the Strategic Plan.
Featured during the proceedings was a research presentation by Kelly Anthony of the School of Public Health and Health Systems on the subject of HIP, or a high-impact-practices approach to experiential learning in the context of undergraduate education. Noting the draft Strategic Plan contains an “unbelievably strong” commitment to experiential learning, Professor Anthony entertained a range of thoughtful questions from senators about the ‘HIP’ concept.
The vote to endorse the university’s new Strategic Plan, as recommended by the Senate Long-Range Planning Committee, was briefly postponed. Senators will take a modestly expanded period of time to review recent revisions to the plan, which were based on feedback elicited from the campus community.
The vote to endorse the plan will soon take place electronically, by email, a process being facilitated by the Secretariat.
