CALL FOR PAPERS: Special Issue in Body Image

Bodies are Protesting: Reclaiming Body Image in Sport and Movement Contexts

Monday, July 13, 2026
Are you exploring themes of body activism, resistance, or reclamation?

Dr. Aly Bailey and Dr. Kaleigh Pennock of the University of Waterloo are guest editing a special issue in Body Image titled "Bodies are Protesting: Reclaiming Body Image in Sport and Movement Contexts." This special issue welcomes both empirical and theoretical contributions that critically examine how bodies, as agentic entities, resist, protest, and reclaim body image within sport, physical activity, and movement cultures. They invite submissions that explore how Black, racialized, Indigenous, two-spirited, LGBTQAI+, disabled, fat, thick/thicc, neurodivergent, (and more) people and communities are reclaiming their bodies and re-imagining body image in sport and movement spaces as an act of protest.

If you have an idea or an ongoing project, submit a 250-word abstract by November 1, 2026.  More details can be found by clicking here.
