Call for participants: Black girls and women in hockey
We’re excited to share that registration for Telling Our Stories: A Gathering for Black Girls and Women in Hockey is now open! This is a community-engaged research project led by researchers at the University of Waterloo, exploring the experiences of Black girls and women in hockey.
We’re currently inviting participants to take part in this important and impactful work. You are eligible to participate if you:
-
Identify as a Black girl or woman (including those who identify with multiple racial/ethnic identities in addition to Black)
-
Are age 14 or older
-
Have participated in hockey in any capacity (e.g., athlete, coach, official, fan, or parent/guardian)
Participants will be invited to attend a one-day, in-person event in Toronto (location to be announced) on May 3 from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm where you’ll have the opportunity to connect with others, share your experiences, and contribute to shaping more inclusive hockey spaces.
The event will include:
-
Movement-based activities
-
Creative, art-based research activities
-
Small-group “Sistah Circles” discussions
-
Reflection through storytelling, drawing, or photography
This is more than a research study: it’s a space to be heard, build community, and help inform change in hockey environments across Canada.
Lunch and refreshments will be provided. As a thank you for your time, participants will receive a gift card at the end of the event.
