Mandate

School closures are difficult and often highly polarizing experiences. The consequences of a permanent school closure are often considerable and long-lasting. The purpose of our research is to explore the school closure issue with regard to the decision-making philosophy and models that guide accommodation review processes.

We think that it is possible to design decision-making models that are reasonable, rational, transparent and applicable in different contexts. Our perspectives on school closures are guided by our backgrounds in urban planning, public administration, and policy/evaluation research.

We think it’s important to begin a conversation about these issues and challenges. Accordingly, this site has been designed to provide links to resources and research on a topic that is attracting considerable attention in communities across Ontario, Canada and elsewhere.
