Welcome to a new year of peer mentorship! We are excited to welcome you to the program this year. The first session will introduce exciting developments for the 2022-2023 school year and will be a chance for students to connect and learn more about the program. Join us on Friday, April 29th from 12-1 pm ET for our Monthly Peer Mentorship to discuss "How to Have A Productive Spring Term."

April's session will be an opportunity for students to chat about strategies to meet your work goals while building in time for rest throughout the term. We will also talk about ways to stay productive while working towards comprehensive exams, thesis proposals, defenses, research, practicum/internships, journal manuscripts, etc. These are common milestones to work towards during the spring term. We will be discussing in small groups in a non-judgmental setting.

Join us Tuesday April 26th from 11-12pm for our Lunch and Learn with Dr. Scott Leatherdale for his latest COMPASS research that aims to improve youth health and wellbeing.

His COMPASS System is a prospective cohort study following over 75k Canadian youth to evaluate how ongoing and real-world changes to programs, policies or built environment resources surrounding youth impact multiple health behaviours and outcomes over time.

Join us on Friday, March 25th from 12-1 pm ET for our Monthly Peer Mentorship to discuss tips and tricks for "Attending & Networking at Conferences".

This month's session will be an opportunity for students who are attending conferences for the first time to discuss tips for conference season. Students who have presented at and attended conferences before are invited to share their experiences. We will discuss tips for presenting and networking at virtual vs. in-person conferences and the pros and cons of each. We will be discussing in small groups in a non-judgmental setting.

We are excited to host a free online Cooking Social event Wednesday May 25th from 5:30-6:30pm. Adèle Corkum will lead attendees through a live demonstration on how to make crispy roasted chickpeas. Come join us to learn some new cooking skills and participate in fun games!!

Adèle Corkum is a Registered Dietitian in Nova Scotia and current student in UW's MSc Public Health and Health Systems program. She is passionate about improving access to healthy, safe, affordable, and culturally appropriate food for all, especially those unfairly affected by the social determinants of health. 

Join us Tuesday March 22nd from 11-12pm for our Lunch and Learn with Laura Bredahl, a Bibliometrics and Research Impact Librarian from the UW Library. The audience will learn about improving the discoverability of your personal bibliometrics and how this might be helpful throughout your career.

This interactive webinar covers the basics of bibliometrics, commonly used bibliometric indicators and discusses the importance of the responsible use of bibliometric data. You will also be introduced to tools that will help you discover and control your bibliometric data and discover aggregated and normalised bibliometric data for groups of papers and for institutions.

Shelley Huisken-Coniglio from Counselling Services will provide a presentation on what students have access to, what our benefits cover, and what happens if our benefits run out. This information session is for students and faculty for all programs under the Faculty of Health: Kinesiology, Recreation and Leisure, and SPHS.
