Lab Research Receives Best Presentation Award at ICSR 2024

Saturday, October 26, 2024

We are proud to announce that our research paper, "What Makes an Educational Robot Game Fun? Framework Analysis of Children’s Design Ideas," received the Best Presentation Award at the 16th International Conference on Social Robotics (ICSR 2024), held from October 23-26 in Odense, Denmark. The paper was also nominated for the Best Paper award. This year’s conference theme, "Empowering Humanity: The Role of Social and Collaborative Robotics in Shaping Our Future," highlighted innovative advancements in social robotics aimed at enhancing human interaction and societal integration. The paper was presented by our lab member, Ellie Sanoubari.

Authored by Elaheh Sanoubari, John Edison Muñoz, Ali Yamini, Neil Randall, and Kerstin Dautenhahn, this paper investigates how "fun" can be systematically incorporated into educational games involving social robots. The research specifically focuses on REMind, a robot-mediated game designed to encourage children’s intervention in peer bullying situations. By conducting a user-centred study with children, researchers identified 28 key elements contributing to engaging and effective robot-mediated games, which could serve as a valuable framework for future educational and social robotics projects.

We extend our gratitude to the ICSR 2024 organizers, as well as to all conference participants who contributed to this event.
